Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Worcester, MA -- Former Assistant General Manager Jorg Bassiacos was named Executive Vice President and General Manager of the team today following the resignation of R.C. Reuteman. David Peterson was named Vice President and Director of Sales.
"We are fortunate that an executive with Jorg's experience and background with the team was available to us," said Ted Tye, Tornadoes' Chairman. "Jorg is well respected by members of the Worcester community and is completely familiar with our operations. We are thrilled to have him re-join us."
Reuteman guided the Tornadoes through their third season after joining the front office in October, 2006. He submitted his resignation last week for personal reasons and has decided to leave the Worcester area.
Bassiacos joined the Tornadoes in their inaugural 2005 season. During that year, he was responsible for the start up of Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field and performed many functions for the team ranging from sales to community relations. He left the Tornadoes after the 2007 season to accept a position with a private sector firm.
"My heart is with Worcester and baseball," stated Bassiacos. "This promises to be a great year to be a Tornadoes fan and I will be focusing on making it a great summer to be at the ballpark."
Prior to his previous tenure with the Tornadoes, Bassiacos spent several years in the insurance business, but his dream was always to run a professional sports team. "I know what the Tornadoes mean to the Worcester area," explains Bassiacos, "and I will build on our past success to delver a quality product to our fans and sponsors."
In an additional front office move, David Peterson was named Vice President and Director of Sales. Peterson, known to Tornadoes fans as the zany "Peterman" who entertains fans during games at Hanover Insurance Park, has been leading the Tornadoes sales team since September 2007. In his new and expanded role, Peterson will work with all major sponsors in the marketing of the Tornadoes.
