New Jersey Jackals News Release
Quebec City, QC - The New Jersey Jackals dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road against Les Capitales de Quebec on Tuesday evening by scores of 5-2 in game one, and 6-0 in game two.
In game one, The Jackals mounted a late-game comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh after trailing 5-0 but still fell by a score of 5-2.
Shortstop Ramon Nivar led off the top of the seventh with a double. Following a groundout and a strikeout, the Jackals, down to their final out, had the next three batters reach base. After a Chris Kelly walk, designated hitter Marcos Rodriguez and right fielder Andrew Larsen each laced RBI singles before pinch hitter Matt Lauderdale struck out to end the game.
Jackals starter Michael Vicaro struggled with his control as Quebec jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Vicaro dealt eleven consecutive balls to begin the frame, resulting in walks to first baseman Eddie Lantigua and designated hitter Pat Scalabrini. After a single by third baseman Pat Deschenes, a base knock by right fielder Alex Nunez plated the first run of the game for the Capitales. A two-run double by right fielder Mike Goss closed out the three-run inning.
Quebec pushed two more runs across in the fifth inning of game one as Vicaro was chased from the game. Right-hander TJ Stanton picked up his first win of the year for the Capitales, going six shutout innings while allowing just two hits.
In the nightcap, Quebec took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Goss before scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning and two in the sixth. Capitales starter Luis Valdez pitched five innings of one-hit ball to earn his first win of the season. Aaron Tressler struggled for the Jackals, taking the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking three.
For Quebec, Scalabrini was 4-4 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. New Jersey's hits were collected by Kelly, Larsen, and designated hitter Casey Gordon.
