Chesapeake Baysox News Release

BOWIE, Md. - Baysox starting pitcher Zach Britton has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 27. Britton is the first Baysox pitcher to win the award since teammate Steve Johnson won it for the week ending September 8, 2009.

Britton made one start on the week, holding Altoona to one run Friday night over 8.0 innings on four hits and one walk while striking out nine. It was the longest start by a Baysox pitcher this season, and the longest outing of Britton's career. His nine strikeouts matched his career high and tied the team high for the season, and Britton also set the team high with his fifth consecutive victory.

It has been an outstanding year for Britton, he leads the team in wins (7), innings pitched (87.0) and is tied for the team lead in strikeouts (68). Among Baysox starters, he has the lowest ERA (2.48) and WHIP (1.20) while leading the Eastern League in ground out-to-air out ratio (3.06).

The southpaw entered the year rated as the Orioles third best prospect by Baseball America and was recently named to the U.S. Team for the 2010 Futures Game in Anaheim.
