Brendan Buckley named captain of Rivermen, Aaron MacKenzie alternate captain

Peoria, IL (October 4, 2005) - Head Coach Steve Pleau of the Peoria Rivermen, proud new primary affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, announced today that he has named defenseman Brendan Buckley as the captain of the team. Pleau also related that defenseman Aaron MacKenzie will serve as an alternate captain for the club.

Buckley, 28, recorded three goals, thirteen assists, and 128 minutes in penalties in 63 games played last season for the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL). For his efforts in 2004-05, Buckley was honored as the IceCats' defenseman of the year. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim chose Buckley in the 5th round of the 1996 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

MacKenzie, 24, has spent his entire professional career in the Blues organization since he graduated from the University of Denver in 2003. He appeared in 75 contests with the Worcester IceCats in 2004-05, notching two goals and thirteen assists and incurring 106 penalty minutes.

The Rivermen are a proud new member of the AHL. Founded in 1936, the AHL now serves as the primary development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams and will celebrate its 70th anniversary season in 2005-06.
