Atlanta Sends Pair to Chicago

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned center DEREK MacKENZIE and goaltender ADAM BERKHOEL (BUHRK-uhl) to the Chicago Wolves.

MacKENZIE registered a career-high 20 assists and 33 points in 78 games with the Wolves last season. The 24-year-old forward paced the team with six short-handed goals and became the new franchise leader with 15 career shorties.

The Sudbury, Ontario, native shared third in the American Hockey League with a team-high +10 plus/minus rating during the playoffs. He also collected postseason career-highs with six assists, 11 points and 33 penalty minutes for the 2005 Western Conference Champion Wolves.

BERKHOEL played one game with Chicago last season, notching a 0-1-0 record with a 4.04 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. The St. Paul, Minn., native also suited up for the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators, posting a 9-10-0-5 mark with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.
