Lexington Legends News Release
Matt Tellor's leadoff homer in the seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the Rome Braves went on to a 3-1 win over the Lexington Legends Sunday in Rome to complete a sweep of their four-game series.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Hector Olivera, the Cuban star who is with Rome on a rehab assignment after being acquired recently by Atlanta from the Los Angeles Dodgers, drew a walk. Olivera, who is expected to join the Atlanta Braves before the season ends, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Tanner Murphy.
Rome starter Oriel Caicedo blanked the Legends on three hits through the first five innings, but the Legends broke through in the sixth. With one out, Austin Bailey singled. He stole second with two outs and scored the tying run on a single by Anderson Miller.
After Tellor's homer in the seventh gave Rome a 2-1 lead, Erison Mendez singled, Stephen Gaylor was hit by a pitch and Omar Obregon walked to load the bases. Mendez came home with the game's final run as Olivera grounded into a double play.
Mitchell Osnowitz (1-2), who relieved Caicedo with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, was the winning pitcher. Dustin Emmons replaced Osnowitz with one out in the eighth and finished the game to earn his fourth save.
Emilio Ogando (5-8) took the loss. He worked the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Starter Scott Blewett pitched the first five innings and allowed one run on three hits.
The Legends return home for a three-game series against the West Virginia Power beginning Monday night. Game time Monday and Tuesday is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday's game will begin at 1:35 p.m.
