Suns sweep Iâ??s in doubleheader and series

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 16, 2015)- In game one of the doubleheader the Hagerstown Suns scored six runs in the sixth inning and held on to beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 7-2, in the 7-inning contest Sunday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis outfielder Michael Suiter went 0-for-2 with a walk, extending his on-base streak to 24 games but ending his Intimidators record 23-game hitting streak.

Zach Thompson worked a no decision, going 5.0 innings, allowing one run on two hits while walking five and striking out five.

In the first, the Intimidators loaded the bases and took a 2-0 lead when Brett Austin grounded into a force out, scoring Michael Suiter, while Alexander Simon scored on a throwing error during the same play.

Hagerstown cut the lead down to 2-1 in the third after Jose Marmolejos scored Connor Kinery on a ground out.

In the sixth, the Suns blew the game open 7-2, plating six runs on two hits including a grand slam by Marmolejos (10).

Connor Bach earned the win (6-3), working 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out four.

Ryan Riga was charged with the loss (0-1) and blown save (2), working 2/3 of an inning, giving up four runs on one hit.

In game two, Hagerstown followed up game ones momentum with a three-run fourth and held on to beat the Kannapolis, 4-3, Sunday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.

In the first, Hagerstown took a 1-0 lead when Matt Reistetter singled home Jose Marmolejos.

Hagerstown added some insurance in the fifth when Raudy Read knocked in two with a two-out double and Reistetter singled in another run, to make it 4-0.

In the home half of the sixth, Kannapolis plated three runs to cut the lead down to 4-3. Ryan Plourde scored the first run of the inning on a Reistetter throwing error. The next at-bat Louie Lechich grounded out to score Micheal Suiter, who extended his on-base streak to a season-high 25 games with a single. Alexander Simon the scored Hunter Jones on a sac-fly to complete the three-run frame.

In the seventh, Hagerstown's Koda Glover retired the side in order to earn the save (3) and complete the series sweep.

Zach Erwin was charged with the loss (0-2), working 3.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits while walking one and striking out one.

Andrew Lee earned the win (2-0), working three perfect innings while striking out three in his first professional start. Lee has yet to give up an earned run in 13 innings of work in the South Atlantic League.

Jose Brito worked 1 and 2/3 innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one.
