KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Hagerstown Suns (25-24, 60-57) swept the Kannapolis Intimidators (23-26, 58-60) in a doubleheader on Sunday evening, winning the first game by a final of 7-2, and eking out a win in the nightcap by a final of 4-3. The doubleheader sweep gave Hagerstown the series sweep, which is the Suns second sweep in their last three series.

In the nightcap on Sunday the Suns held a 4-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Kannapolis plated all three of its runs to wind up setting the final score. Despite being charged for all three Intimidators runs, RHP Deion Williams (1-1) wound up with the win for Hagerstown. In 2.1 innings in relief he allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two. All three runs he gave up were unearned. Starting LHP Zach Erwin (0-2) got tagged with the loss for Kannapolis. He worked three innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out one.

In game one of the doubleheader on Sunday Hagerstown plated six runs in the top of the sixth to turn a one-run deficit into a five-run advantage and capture the 7-2 win. Four of those sixth-inning runs for the Suns were brought home thanks to one swing of the bat by 1B Jose Marmolejos, who hit a grand slam over the right field wall. It was his team-leading 10th homerun of the season, and it was the second grand slam hit by the Suns this year.

LHP Connor Bach (6-3) got the start in game one of the doubleheader for Hagerstown and wound up earning the win. He threw five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out four. Both runs he allowed came in the first inning. LHP Ryan Riga (0-1) suffered the blown save and loss for Kannapolis. In just 0.2 innings in relief he surrendered four earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one.

In the first game of the series on Friday night Hagerstown also cruised to a 7-2 victory. Starting RHP Jeff Howell (1-0), making just his second start ever on the mound, tossed six innings for the Suns and gave up just one earned run on four hits and four walks to earn the win. Starting RHP Luis Martinez (4-11) suffered the loss for Kannapolis. He allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over five innings while striking out four. Defense played a big factor in the outcome of the game as the Intimidators committed three errors while the Suns didn't commit any.

In total Hagerstown out-scored Kannapolis 18-7 in the series, and the Suns outhit the Intimidators 23-12. The Suns next head back home to Hagerstown to take on the Hickory Crawdads (27-22, 71-46) in a three-game series beginning on Monday, August 17. First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05pm.
