Gnats Walk into Thirteenth Straight Win

Savannah, GA - The Sand Gnats used a solo home run to complete the sweep of the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-0 on Sunday at Historic Grayson Stadium. Savannah has won 13 straight and 19 of their last 20.

Savannah (31-17/70-48) left the bases loaded in the first after three straight walks to start the game on Sunday. The Gnats capitalized on back-to-back walks issued to catcher Tyler Moore and left fielder Oswald Caraballo in the second. The pair scored on a throwing error from 'Hoppers first baseman KJ Woods. DH Jonathan Johnson scored on an RBI-single from first baseman Michael Katz.

Greensboro (14-35/43-75) out hit the Gnats eight to four, but failed to plate a run on the day. RHP Michael Gibbons (2-3) allowed just three hits in his 5.0 innings of work to start the game. LHP Ben Griset, RHP Tim Peterson, and RHP Luis Mateo all combined to toss four shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Sunday was the Sand Gnats tenth team shutout victory of the season.

Moore added his second home run in the third inning to finish the game's scoring.

The Sand Gnats travel to Augusta to take on the GreenJackets for three games. The Gnats will send RHP Corey Oswalt (9-4, 3.51) to the hill, while the GreenJackets will start RHP Pat Young (1-2, 6.17). The Sand Gnats will return home on August 20th for Budweiser Thirsty Thursday at Historic Grayson Stadium.
