St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (August 9, 2010) - Preparation is important for any professional athlete. It's all about getting in shape, making sure you get your reps and building the camaraderie with your teammates. While some go away to training camps with their teams to get ready for the long grueling season others decide to work out at their hometown high school and that will be the case for St. Paul Saints four-legged mascot Brat Favre.

Taking a page out of the purple clad retired (?) quarterback, whom he is affectionately named after, Brat will begin heavy training during an optional captain's practice with the Como Park High Football team on Tuesday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. His goal is to make sure he is in shape for the St. Paul Saints final homestand of the season August 20-25. In preparing for the final homestand he will miss the upcoming homestand from August 9-15.

During the course of the summer Brat has continued putting on weight which puts a great deal of strain on his hooves. The Saints have offered more mud and extra rations of slop to sweeten the deal for Brat's return. Brat contacted a few of the Saints personnel before leaving and said his hooves were not healthy and he would not return for the season. Saints first baseman Jason Cooper confirmed that report. Since then other sources close to the situation say that Brat will return if his ankles are healthy.

Saints fans and players understand that the long grind of a baseball season can take a toll on everyone, including the popular Brat and will welcome him back with open arms should he decide to return. The Cougar football team is thankful to have a world-class figure that has been a part of so many important moments step foot on their campus.

When Brat was originally selected as the Saints mascot for 2010 he informed the team he would be unable to perform the duties up to the franchise's historical standards. After the Saints finished pre-season workouts and exhibition games, Favre elected to show up at the World's Largest Game of Catch, announcing he was ready for the season. He was at the top of his game during the season opener on Thursday, May 13 despite not performing during the exhibition games.

While Brat is working out with the Cougars the Saints will turn to one of their back up pigs TaBoaris Jackson and SauSage Rosenfels.
