
Tucker Becomes Third Captains Hurler to Win Weekly Award

SHREVEPORT, La. - Shreveport-Bossier Captains righty Cardoza Tucker was brilliant in his first start of the year, going seven innings to beat El Paso on July 15. After two straight defeats and another loss in emergency relief, the Californian returned to his earlier form in the last week, with two wins against Wichita and El Paso to earn American Association Pitcher of the Week honors, as selected by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
On August 2, Tucker pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) with no walks and four strikeouts to edge the Wingnuts 4-2. Then on August 7 against El Paso, he went an inning more, with two earned runs allowed and five strikeouts, with his lone walk of the week.
Overall this year, the righty is 3-3 with a 4.24 ERA, and 26 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 34 innings. He joins teammates Osvaldo Rodriguez and Ryan DiPietro to have won the Pitcher of the Week. Christopher Garcia also won Batter of the Week honors, and Rodriguez also won Pitcher of the Month for June.
The Shreveport-Bossier Captains continue their nine-game, 10-day, season-long homestand with one game against the Pensacola Pelicans, starting at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, August 9. It is Jose Cuervo Presents Margarita Monday and Ladies' Night, with discounted margaritas and ladies over 21 get in free.
