Indianapolis Indians News Release

On Monday, June 28, the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) will team up with the Indianapolis Indians to host a special evening for 40 foster youth at Victory Field. Through their "Books for Youth" program, presented by Cargo Services, the Colts and DCS have invited 40 foster youth and their families to enjoy a baseball game, compliments of the Indians, and receive their "Books for Youth" backpack filled with a personal library of 25 age-appropriate books. Colts RB Donald Brown and DE John Chick, as well as DCS Director James Payne, will be on hand to distribute the backpacks before the game and will also throw out an honorary first pitch.*

In addition, the Indians will host a "Books for Youth" book drive prior to the start of the game. Fans in attendance are encouraged to bring a new or gently used book to donate to Indiana foster children. Colts Cheerleaders will be on hand to sign autographs for fans from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Individuals interested in attending the game and supporting the Books for Youth program can click on a special link at www.colts.com/booksforyouth to purchase game tickets. A portion of all proceeds from tickets purchased through this link will be used to purchase backpacks for foster youth through the Books for Youth initiative.

The Books for Youth initiative, presented by Cargo Services, was started in 2006 through a partnership between the Colts and DCS. The goal of the program is to provide every foster child in Indiana with a personal backpack filled with 25 books. To date, the Colts and DCS have collected more than 360,000 books statewide and are currently in the process of distributing the books to foster children across Indiana. Books are also currently being collected at all DCS offices throughout the state, as well as Indianapolis-Marion County Library branches. For more information on the Books for Youth program, visit www.colts.com/booksforyouth.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Players in attendance will not be available for autographs/photos for the general public. They are participating as special guests for the 40 foster youth and their families only. However, Colts Cheerleaders and the Colts In Motion vehicle will be available to the general public.
