Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk was limited to five hits as they were shutout 7-0 by the Louisville Bats Friday night at Harbor Park.
Bats starter Travis Wood (5-6) was superb, as he walked one and struck out nine in eight shutout innings. The 23-year-old southpaw faced just six batters over the minimum, throwing 68 of his 103 pitches for strikes.
Jeff Salazar was the lone Tides batter to collect multiple hits, as he finished the contest 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Salazar now has seven multi-hit games over his last nine contests and has upped his average to .285 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI.
Troy Patton (5-8) suffered the loss for the Tides, as he yielded six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. Patton walked two and struck out two.
Louisville pounded out 14 hits in the contest, with Wilkin Castillo leading the charge with three hits and two runs batted in. Chris Burke and Wladimir Balentien each homered for the Bats, while Chris Valaika added two doubles and two runs batted in.
The loss snapped Norfolk's winning streak at three games, and the Tides have yet to register four straight victories this season. Norfolk has had five three-game winning streaks this season.
The two clubs will continue their four-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch scheduled for 8:00. Zach Clark (0-2, 4.26) will start for Norfolk against left-hander Matt Maloney (6-4, 3.52).
