Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, PA) -- OF Domonic Brown, regarded by numerous publications as the top prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, has been promoted to Lehigh Valley from Double-A Reading, the Phillies announced today. Brown is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the IronPigs open a four-game road series against the Durham Bulls at Durham Bulls Athletic Park at 7:05 p.m.
Brown will make his home debut next Tuesday when the IronPigs host the Rochester Red Wings in a doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m. The first game is the completion of a match-up that was suspended due to weather and will resume with no score and two out in the bottom of the second inning. Game Two is scheduled to be a seven-inning contest. Tickets can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Only one ticket is needed to attend both games.
Prices for single-game tickets start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9. Tuesday's home game also features an appearance by the World Famous Phillie Phanatic presented by Polish Water Ice.
Brown had an ultra-productive start to his season with the R-Phils, batting .318 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI in 65 games prior to Friday's promotion. His pace has accelerated during the last two weeks, as the 22-year-old has connected at a .354 clip with five home runs and 14 RBI in his last 13 games.
For his early-season efforts, he was recently named to the U.S. Roster for the 12th annual XM Future's Game that profiles the top young players in baseball during Major League Baseball's All-Star Week festivities in Anaheim, Calif.
A native of Zephyrhills, Fla., Brown was a multi-sport star at both football and basketball when he elected to turn down an offer to play both sports at the University of Miami following his senior year Redan High School (Ga.) upon being selected by the Phillies in the 20th round of the 2006 amateur draft.
Brown began to emerge in 2008 with Lakewood (A) hitting .291 with nine homers, 23 doubles and 54 RBI in 114 games with the BlueClaws. Entering 2009 as the top prospect in the system according to Baseball America, Brown showed continued on-field progression with Advanced-A Clearwater and earned a spot on the mid-season Florida State League All-Star team by hitting .303 with the Threshers. He concluded 2009 with a successful 37-game stint in Double-A Reading.
Brown hails from a rich baseball background, as his uncle, Jim "Mudcat" Grant pitched 14 seasons in the Major Leagues and won 145 games.
Tonight's game can be heard on the IronPigs Radio Network beginning at 6:35 p.m. with the AT&T pre-game show followed by scheduled first pitch for 7:05 p.m.
