Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa.) -- Phillies LHP J.A. Happ, recovering from a strained left forearm that has sidelined him since late April, will continue a Major League rehab assignment when the Lehigh Valley IronPigs host the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park, the Phillies announced today. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.
It is anticipated that Happ will start the resumption of a suspended game from April 16 against the Red Wings at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will resume with no score and two out in the bottom of the second inning. It's also worth noting that on June 17, 2008, Happ resumed a suspended game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and threw seven no-hit innings while striking out 12 and walking only one.
Great seats still remain for Tuesday's 6:05 p.m. doubleheader at Coca-Cola Park which will begin with the resumption of the suspended game, followed by a seven-inning contest. Tickets can be purchased in-person at Coca-Cola Park, by calling (610) 841-PIGS or online at ironpigsbaseball.com. Only one ticket is needed to attend both games.
Prices for single-game tickets start as low as $6 for General Admission, granting fans access to the Capital BlueCross Lawn seating area and standing room only areas. Field Level reserved seats are just $9. Tuesday's home game also features an appearance by the World Famous Phillie Phanatic presented by Polish Water Ice.
In four rehab appearances with Clearwater (A) and Reading (AA), Happ has gone 1-1 with a 7.63 ERA in 15.1 innings.
Originally selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2004 draft, Happ was placed on the disabled list by Philadelphia on April 22 (retroactive to April 16). He made two starts for Philadelphia this season, and went 1-0 without allowing an earned run in 10.1 innings pitched.
Last season, Happ enjoyed one of the best rookie seasons for a Phillies pitcher in club history, going 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA and finishing second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. He was named the NL Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News and led all NL rookies in innings (166.0), strikeouts (119), winning percentage (.750), complete games (3), and shutouts (2).
Pitching for the IronPigs during their inaugural season in 2008, Happ's on-field performance was as noteworthy as any of his teammates as he finished 8-7 with a 3.60 ERA and allowed just 116 hits in 135.0 innings pitched. He also finished 2nd in the International League with 151 strikeouts, one shy of the IL leader. For his efforts, the Phillies named him the Paul Owens Award winner at season's end, bestowed yearly to the top pitcher in the club's organization.
In 2009, Happ was immortalized into Lehigh Valley baseball lore with his own IronPigs Bobblehead doll.
