CHARLESTON, WV - Matt Way and Sebastian Valle continued their stellar play in the month of May, and the BlueClaws prevailed 5-0 Friday night over the West Virginia Power.

Hickory also beat Augusta 2-1, so the BlueClaws (36-26) remain tied with the Crawdads for first place in the South Atlantic League North Division.

Matt Way (5-4) worked his way out of a couple early inning jams to pitch eight outstanding innings, allowing just four walks and striking out seven. Way improved to 5-1 since May 7th with the win.

As for Valle, he came into the night hitting .257 with five homers and 12 RBIs in his last nine games and made his mark on Friday's game.

The Lakewood catcher drove in both of the BlueClaws' first two runs; hitting a sacrifice fly to score Leandro Castro in the sixth, and doubling home Jonathan Singleton to make it a 2-0 game in the eighth.

Lakewood added three more tallies in the ninth to pull away. Jiwan James hit a sac-fly to bring in a run, Alan Schoenberger (filling in for an injured Jonathan Villar) picked up an RBI triple, and Jonathan Singleton sacrificed him in to make it 5-0.

Power (29-33) starter Jason Erickson allowed just three hits in five innings, but Maurice Bankston (3-4) failed keep the Lakewood off the board, letting up two runs in three innings.

Saturday at 7:05 pm RHP Jonathan Pettibone (2-2, 5.98) will make his second start since coming off the DL against RHP Philip Irwin (1-0, 1.35).
