
Rome Rally Falls Short

Rome, GA - The Greenville Drive defeated the Rome Braves7-6 Friday night in front of 2,885 fans at State Mutual Stadium. With the loss, Rome falls to 26-35 on the season.
The Braves scored the first run of the night in the first inning when Jordan Kreke walked and later scored on Robert Hefflinger's single for the 1-0 score. The Drive tied the game at 1-1 the next inning on an RBI single by Zach Gentile.
Greenville would break the tie in the third to take the lead 4-1 on a two RBI single by Dan Butler that ricocheted off pitcher Cory Rasmus and he would have to leave the game. He was replaced by Julio Surinach who gave up an RBI single to Michael Almanzar. Rome responded with two runs in the fourth inning on run scoring hits from Braeden Schlehuber and Chris Curley making the score 4-3.
Two more runs would cross the plate for Greenville in the fifth for the 6-3 lead. Fuentes singled and advanced to second on a throwing error from Kreke that plated Butler. Fuentes later scored on a Gentile single to right. The Drive added another run in the eighth inning on a Michael Almanzar single to score Hazelbaker to make the score 7-3.
Rome scored three runs after loading the bases in the ninth highlighted by a two RBI double by Hefflinger but Greenville held on for the 7-6 final.
Ryan Pressly (2-3) picks up the win for Greenville while Rome's Cory Rasmus (3-4) gets the loss. Rome takes on Greenville again tomorrow at 7pm for the series finale. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
