
BlueClaws Win over Shorebirds

Salisbury, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws (24-45) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (30-39) continued their series on Saturday night. Doug Gredvig drove in four runs and starter Derek Griffith had another solid outing as the BlueClaws won over the Shorebirds 9-3.
The BlueClaws took the lead in the third batting around once and plating five runs on six hits for a 5-0 lead. With one out in the inning Lakewood connected for five consecutive hits beginning with Jesus Merchan who had a base hit. Greg Golson followed up with an RBI double to give Lakewood a 1-0 lead. Brad Harman followed up with an RBI base hit to score Golson.
After Dzurilla singled to put runners on first and second Sam Orr drove in a run with an RBI double and Lakewood was on top 3-0. Gredvig capped off the scoring in the inning with a two-out two-run single plating Dzurilla and Orr to give Lakewood a 5-0 lead.
Griffith (W, 3-5) allowed just one run on three hits with it all happening in the fourth inning and Lakewood already up by five runs. Jason Fransz led off the inning with a double then scored on a two-out RBI base hit from Jacob Duncan.
Lakewood got the run back in the fifth inning on an RBI double from Gredvig scoring Mike Dzurilla for a 6-1 lead.
With the score 6-2 in the ninth Lakewood added three runs with the help of two fielding errors to increase the lead to 9-2. A throwing error by the Shorebirds second baseman Eric Grimm allowed Dzurilla and Orr to score on Gredvig's grounder. Lakewood got another run when shortstop Juan Gutierrez threw wildly over to first on Sean Gamble's ground ball allowing Gredvig to score.
Griffith pitched six innings allowing one run on four hits while walking five and striking out four. Cory Dueitt, Joe Bisenius, and Matt Sweeney all pitched an inning of relief combining for two runs on five hits while walking one.
Gredvig finished the night 2-for-5 with a double, four RBI's and a run scored. Golson went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. Dzurilla and Orr both finished 3-for-5 with Dzurilla scoring three times and Orr scoring twice and collecting an RBI.
The BlueClaws look to win the series as Lakewood and Delmarva wrap up their series Sunday afternoon. Lakewood will send right-hander Maximo De La Cruz (2-7, 4.70) to the mound while the Shorebirds will counter with right-hander Kevin Hart (3-5, 5.70). First pitch on Sunday is at 1:35 p.m. with on-air time at 1:20 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions, fireworks every Friday night home game and kids eat free Monday Nights courtesy of Shop Rite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against the New York Mets affiliate.
