Captains Fall to Legends, 3-2
June 18, 2005 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Lexington's Johnny Ash delivered an RBI infield single in the seventh inning Friday, which proved to be the difference in the Legends' 3-2 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park.
The Captains fell to two games behind the Legends in the SAL North first-half race with two games left to play. The Hagerstown Suns remained one game out when they defeated West Virginia 3-2. The Captains now can only tie the Legends, and will need help from West Virginia to keep the first-half title hopes alive.
Ash, a SAL All-Star, beat out a slow roller to third with two outs in the seventh against T.J. Burton (3-5). The hit drove in Mitch Einertson, who had reached on an error against third baseman Chris Gimenez leading off the inning. Ash's hit broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Legends the lead.
The Captains (39-29) tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth with an unearned run against Lexington starter Juan Gutierrez (4-2). Brian Barton singled to drive in Argenis Reyes, who had reached base on an error. Fernando Pacheco homered in the second for an early 1-0 lead.
The Legends (41-27) tied the game 1-1 in the third on a home run by Frankie Caraballo off Captains starter Tony Sipp. They tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ash.
The Captains and Legends will square off again on Saturday evening at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330, WKKY FM 104.7).
