Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Lakewood BlueClaws kicked off their 8 game Road Trip with a 5-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs on Thursday night. It was the 2nd straight win for Lakewood as they improve to 12-14 on the year, trying to get back to the .500 mark. There were a lot of positives in the game for Lakewood as their defense committed 0 errors in the game, all 3 Pitchers who appeared in the game were very sharp, and Zach Collier showed signs of life at the plate. There were a couple of firsts for some BlueClaws in the game as well.

Lakewood SP Ervis Manzanillo pitched very well again, and this time he picked up his first win as a BlueClaw. He went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 4, and struck out 5. RHP Lisalberto Bonilla made his first appearnce for Lakewood, and he pitched 2 perfect innings striking out 2. Then RHP Tyler Knigge came on to pitch the 9th, and shut the door on Charleston while earning his first career save. Maybe the most refreshing thing about the game for Lakewood however were the zero errors the defense committed. They made all the routine plays as well as a couple highlight reel plays.

RiverDogs SP Nik Turley got the loss for Charleston as he fell to 1-2 on the year. BlueClaws 2B Alan Schoenberger smacked his first HR of the year, and he also doubled and walked in the game. Carlos Perdomo got the start at SS and responded with 3 singles to continue his hot hitting. The story of the night offensively though was LF Zach Collier. Collier had been ice cold at the plate enetering the contest, but he reached base 3 times in the game for Lakewood including a 2-run triple in the 6th inning, a very welcome sign for the BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws will send out their Opening Day starter in LHP Mario Hollands (2-2, 2.45 ERA) to the mound Firday night, and he will be opposed by Charleston RHP Mikey O'Brien (0-2, 3/38 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm in Charleston.
