Tonight: The Gnats, SAL affiliate of the New York Mets, begin an eight-game home stand and a four-game series against the Rome Braves, SAL affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Gnats finished their nine-game road trip to Delmarva and Lakewood at 3-6.

Last Game: Lakewood scored an unearned run in the seventh inning on a pop fly on the right side of the infield to break a 3-3 tie on their way to a 4-3 win to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Gnats. The BlueClaws tied the game at 3-3 on an unearned run in the sixth. The Gnats did all of their scoring on a three-run double from 1B Sam Honeck in the first inning.

Now Pitching: RHP Greg Peavey, the Gnats Opening-Night starter, will make his sixth professional start tonight. In his last start against Delmarva, Peavey held the Shorebirds to one run on six hits and two walks in five innings. He fanned four, his second-lowest total this year. In 2010 with Oregon State, Peavey was an All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention and a two-time conference Player of the Week. Peavey had been drafted twice before: in the 24th round of the 2007 draft out of Hudson's Bay High School by the New York Yankees and in the 32nd round of the 2009 draft by the Houston Astros. In high school, he was named Washington's Class 3A baseball Player of the Year in 2007. Peavey has had national-level success even before high school, helping pitch the Hazel Dell Metro Little League team to the Little League World Series in 2000, and the Hazel Dell Metro teams that won Babe Ruth Championships in 2001 and 2002. The Gnats are 1-4 when Peavey throws and have supported him with a team-high 5.20 runs per game.

Low Scoring Offenses: The matchup between the Gnats and Braves pairs the two lowest-scoring offenses in the SAL and the only teams who had not reached 100 runs scored. Savannah averages 3.76 runs per game (94 runs/25 games) while Rome is a hair better at 3.80 runs per game (99 runs/26 games). Savannah has hit for more power; the team's 20 home runs are part of a five-way tie for fifth in the League and the Gnats' 52 doubles are also fifth. By contrast, Rome is dead last in the SAL with just nine home runs and 35 doubles. Savannah is last in the 14-team SAL in batting average, 13thin on-base percentage and 14 th in slugging as part of a .230/.300/.374 (AVG/OBP/SLG) line. Rome is 10 th in average, 12th in on-base percentage and last in slugging as part of a .251/.300/.341 performance.

Ouch: The Braves enter play on Thursday losers of five games in a row, the longest active losing streak in the SAL.

Roster Update: The Gnats activated CF Darrell Ceciliani off the disabled list on Thursday. Ceciliani had missed the last 20 Gnats games with a strained hamstring. OF Rafael Fernandez was promoted to advanced-A St. Lucie. The Gnats also swapped relievers, sending RHP Guillaume Leduc to SSA Brooklyn and adding LHP Hamilton Bennett from Extended Spring Training.

Home Cooking: The Gnats are 5-4 at Historic Grayson Stadium in 2011. The Gnats are 4-1 in one-run games at home. The Gnats are 5-1 at home when scoring four runs or more.

Vs. Rome: Tonight will be the first of 23 games between the Gnats and Braves. Savannah will host 11 of the team's games, while Rome will host the other 12. The Gnats were 14-9 against Rome in 2010 and 9-2 at home. Savannah's nine wins at home and 14 overall against Rome were their most against any single opponent.
