STAT OF THE GAME: The Shorebirds never won three straight series last season. They have already accomplished that this season. The last time the Shorebirds won more than three series in a row was in 2007 (April 29 through June 13, 5 straight).

PREVIEW: Following an 11-0 loss and an off day, the Shorebirds aim for a game one win against the Asheville Tourists. The Shorebirds have won 11 of their last 12 games and currently stand in third place, 2.5 games behind the Hickory Crawdads. The Shorebirds finished their most recent homestand with an 8-1 record. They have won three straight series over Augusta (3-2), Savannah (5-0) and Charleston (3-1). The Shorebirds are 11-3 against the Southern Division this season.

TWO AWARDS FOR MACHADO: This past Monday, Manny Machado was named the SAL Player of the Week for the week of April 25 through May 1. On Tuesday, he was named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month for April. Machado has hits in eight of his last nine games and he has reached base in 12 of his last 13 games.

FIFTH IN SAL: Kipp Schutz ranks tied for fifth in the SAL in batting average at .375. Helder Velazquez of Asheville leads the league with a .395 average. Schutz went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs in the most recent game on May 3. Schutz ranks first in the Orioles system in batting average, second in RBIs (20) and second in hits (33).

3 STRAIGHT MULTI-HIT GAMES: Jonathan Schoop has notched three straight multi-hit games. He is 7-of-13 at the plate in his last three games. Schoop ranks second on the Shorebirds in batting average (.340) and first in hits with 35.

HIGH SCORING SERIES: Two of the top hitting teams in the league will meet over the next four nights. Asheville is second in the league with a .288 batting average, while the Shorebirds rank fifth at .275. The Tourists rank second in the SAL in runs with 160 while the Shorebirds are fourth with 148. The Tourists rank second in the league in home runs (23) while the Shorebirds are fifth (20). Finally, the Shorebirds are third in the league in on-base percentage (.361) while the Tourists rank fourth at .359.

ORIOLE CONNECTION ON ASHEVILLE: Lenn Sakata is in his first season as the hitting coach for the Asheville Tourists. Sakata played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1980-1985. He had his best season with the Orioles in 1982 when he hit .259 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. Sakata played 11 major league seasons for four different teams.
