David Freitas hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Hagerstown Suns took an 8-2 victory over the Lexington Legends in the opener of a four-game series in Hagerstown.

The Legends scored in the top of the second inning on a double by Mike Kvasnicka and a single by Tyler Burnett. Hagerstown answered with a run in the bottom of the second. Freitas and Randolph Oduber singled, putting runners at first and second. Wade Moore was called out on strikes, and Jason Martinson hit into a force play, leaving runners at first and third. Freitas scored the tying run when pitcher Juan Minaya's pickoff attempt got past Tyler Burnett. Burnett was charged with the error.

Bryce Harper's two-run homer in the third, his seventh of the season, put the Suns up 3-1. The Legends came back with a run in the fourth on Burnett's single and a double by Delino DeShields, but Hagerstown restored the two-run margin in the fifth on a single by Blake Kelso, a wild pitch and a two-out single by Freitas.

It was still 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Michael Taylor led off with a single to right field. Kelso beat out a bunt, and both runners moved up on a sacrifice by Adrian Sanchez. Harper was intentionally walked, loading the bases, and Freitas followed with the grand slam over the wall in left field.

Hagerstown starter Bobby Hansen (3-1) worked the first five innings to get his third win. Legends starter Minaya, the Lexington starter, (0-2) was the losing pitcher. The series continues Friday night at Municipal Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
