BlueClaws' Offense Scores Season High

Lakewood, N.J. – The Lakewood BlueClaws (11-24) and the Delmarva Shorebirds (17-18), Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, opened up a four game series in Maryland on Friday night. Lakewood set a season high in runs scored with a 10-4 win over the Shorebirds.

Lakewood jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning. With one out in the inning and runners on first and second Jason Jaramillo connected for an RBI ground-rule double scoring Timi Moni from second. Ryan Frith then singled to score Sam Orr from third and Jarmaillo from second and Lakewood led 3-0.

Delmarva scored a run in the second inning then twice more in the fifth inning to tie it up at 3-3. With a runner on first and third and two outs Ryan Finan singled to score Francisco Guerro to cut the lead to 3-2. The Shorebirds tied it up at 3-3 when C.J. Smith reached on Sam Orr's error allowing Quincy Ascencion to score from third.

Lakewood broke it open in the seventh inning plating five runs on just three hits. With one out in the inning Mike Dzurilla singled then three consecutive walks gave the BlueClaws a 4-3 lead. Chris Klemm then followed up with a two-run single and Carl Galloway connected for a two-run double and Lakewood increased the lead to 8-3.

Derek Griffith pitched five innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking two and striking out eight for the no decision. Adam Shafer (W, 1-0) pitched two innings in relief allowing one run on two hits while striking out one and walking nobody.

Jaramillo finished the night 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Galloway went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI's.

The BlueClaws and Delmarva continue their series on Saturday night. Lakewood will send left-hander J.A. Happ (2-1, 1.59) to the mound while the Shorebirds will counter with Russel Petrick (0-3, 6.75). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. with on-air time at 6:20 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions this year, kids twelve and under eat free every Monday night home game courtesy of ShopRite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and New York Mets.
