Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown, MD - For the third time this year the Hagerstown Suns shut out an opponent at home. This time it was the Greensboro Grasshoppers turn to get blanked, 4-0, at Municipal Stadium. The Suns improved to a league best 24-11 with the win in the first game of a four game homestand.

RHP Matt Durkin (2-1) pitched 6 1/3 marvelous, shutout innings for his second win of the season. Durkin allowed Greensboro (20-14) just two hits and two walks. The Suns starters are now 3-0 with a 2.43ERA in their last five games. If you add in the fact that the Suns have had double digit hit totals in 11 of their last 12 games, its no wonder they lead the league with 24 wins, and have won 6 of their last 7 games.

Matt Miramontes closed out the game, hurling the final 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, yielding just one hit and one walk.

Derran Watts went 3-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Watts now has five three-hit games to go with a four-hit game this year. Aaron Hathaway gave the Suns a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two run double. Hathaway finished 2-4, and Corey Coles added a multi-hit game as well, going 2-4.

Saturday is Herald Mail Team Photo and Star Wars Night. The Suns take the Grasshoppers in game two of four at 6:35pm, gates open at 5:30pm. Gaby Hernandez takes on Greensboro's RHP Allen Baxter. For tickets call 301-791-6266.
