Blue and Gold Stymied by Hershey

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Admirals concluded their franchise-record 10-game road trip with a 2-1 overtime loss at Bridgeport on November 11, following which, they returned home for two match ups against Hershey. On November 13, Norfolk outshot the Bears 32 to 15, but came up on the losing end of a 2-1 score. Though the shots were even at 27 apiece on November 15, Hershey doubled the Admirals' score once again, coming away as 6-3 victors.

The Portland Pirates (Washington Capitals) make their only appearances at Scope this season on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22. Face off is at 7:30 p.m. both evenings.

The Admirals are currently sixth in the East Division with 14 points (5-11-2-2). They trail Bridgeport (9-3-3-1, 22 points), Hershey (9-3-2-2, 22 points), Binghamton (8-4-2-2, 20 points), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (7-6-1-1, 16 points) and Philadelphia (6-8-2-1, 15 points), and are followed by Albany (3-6-3-1, 10 points).

The Admirals lost both contests the teams played in Portland on October 30 and November 1. Washington's farm club sits sixth in the Atlantic Division (7-9-0-0, 14 points) and has won just once in seven road contests this season (1-6-0-0). The Pirates are last in the AHL on the power play, having scored just seven times in 84 chances (8.3). Conversely, their penalty killers rank seventh in the League, having surrendered just eight goals in 68 shorthanded situations (88.2). Portland has been outshot 444-396 thus far. Colin Forbes tops the squad in helpers (nine) and points (12, three goals). Trent Whitfield leads the team with seven lamplighters and three power play tallies, and has scored a goal in four consecutive games (since November 8). Dwayne Zinger is the Pirates' top-scoring defenseman with 2+3=5 points, and his plus-5 rating is highest on the team. The lowest rating belongs to Ivan Ciernik at minus-7. Darcy Verot leads Portland with 64 penalty minutes, and he is tied with St. John's' Mike Brown for eighth in the League in PIM. Maxime Ouellet has seen the most action in net for the Pirates, posting a record of 4-7-0 with a 2.06 GAA and a .926 spct. in 11 games. Matt Yeats has made one appearance, allowing one goal on 14 shots in 18 minutes of work.

Friday, November 21 (Portland Pirates)

* Food collection for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. The Admirals will begin their annual collection of non-perishable food items for the Foodbank. Fans can place donations in bins by the entrances to Scope. The food collection will continue through December 13.

Saturday, November 22 (Portland Pirates)

* Pre-Game Party at AJ Gator's, 344 Granby Street in Norfolk. For just $15, receive a Blue Level ticket to the game that evening plus two drink vouchers and an hors d'oeuvre buffet. TEAM NOTEBOOK

* Norfolk leads the AHL in games played (20), regulation losses (11), overall losses (13; two OTL), shots for (612) and shares the League-lead in power play goals with 17 (Syracuse, Worcester).

* Norfolk currently holds the League's longest active streak of non-wins (five, 0-3-1-1 since November 8) and has the ignominious honor of the AHL's longest non-winning streak this season (six games, 0-5-0-1, October 26 - November 5).

* The Admirals saw several firsts in their game against Hershey on November 15: C Brandin Cote and C Mikhail Yakubov each netted their first goals of the season, and G Jeff Sanger played in his first game as a member of the Blue and Gold.

* Yakubov picked up his sixth assist of the year against Hershey on November 15, already surpassing his assist total from last season (five).

* After receiving two minor penalties in the Admirals' first game of the season (at Wilkes-Barre on October 8), Yakubov has not visited the ‘sin bin' since, a span of 18 games without a penalty.

* G Steve Passmore is winless in nine games (0-7-2 since October 12). He holds Norfolk's franchise record for consecutive home games without a victory (11 games; 0-8-3 since November 11, 2002).
