Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: An 0-1-1 weekend saw the Sens fall from first place in the East Division all the way down to third. A 2-2-1-1 mark on the current seven-game home stand has left the Sens still searching for back-to-back wins for the first time since the club opened the season with five straight victories.
FRIDAY, NOV. 14th, vs. ALBANY (3-3ot T): Coming back from a 3-1, third period deficit, the Sens salvage a point and remained unbeaten in their brief history against the River Rats (6-0-3) and on TV (3-0-1). RW JOSH LANGFELD brought Binghamton to within 3-2 with his 7th of the year at 11:18 of the third period. The prospects of sending the game to overtime looked bleak as RW DENNIS BONVIE was ticketed with charging at the 15:06 mark to the third. But C SERGE PAYER netted the club's second SHG of the night at 16:53 to even the count at 3-3 in what would be the final goal of the contest. C BROOKS LAICH found the net at 13:22 of the 2nd period with teammate Alexandre Giroux in the box, serving a bench minor for too many men. The two shorthanded goals matched the standard set when Steve Martins and David Hymovitz turned the trick in a 4-1 home win vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton October 25, 2002. RAY EMERY stopped 23 shots on the night while SCOTT CLEMMENSEN made 40 saves for the Rats as the Sens matched a season-high with 43 shots on goal for the second straight outing. The Sens were held scoreless on the power play (0x6) for just the fourth time this season while they killed off six of seven Albany man advantages.
SATURDAY, NOV. 15th, vs. ALBANY (3-4 L): For the second time in the week, a three goal surge in the second period would erase a first period deficit, but would not carry the club onto victory. Goals by LW DENIS HAMEL (EV), C DANIEL CORSO (PP), and C SERGE PAYER (SHG) powered Binghamton to a 3-2 lead after forty minutes. But the River Rats shocked the Sens with a pair of goals in the final 2:13 to escape the Arena with its first ever win against Binghamton. JIRI BICEK pinballed a centering pass from below the goal line past G RAY EMERY (28 saves) to tie the game at three at 17:47 of the third period. The Rats then struck for the game-winner just 68 seconds later at 18:55 as MAXIM BALMOCHNYKH finished off a two-on-one break by burying an ALEKSANDER SOGLOBOV centering feed, breaking Albany's three-game winless streak (0-2-1). ARI AHONEN (25 saves) gained his first win of the year for Albany. The Sens went 1x5 on the power play and killed off six of seven River Rats man advantages. COMING UP: The Senators wrap up their season-high, seven-game home stand with a first visit by the Manchester Monarchs Friday night before hitting the road for the first time since October 28th with trips to Albany Saturday night and Bridgeport Sunday afternoon.
FRIDAY, NOV. 21st vs. MANCHESTER, 7:05 pm: The Sens meet the top prospects of the Los Angeles Kings for the first time ever in the Monarchs' only visit to Binghamton this season. The Monarchs are three points behind front-running Hartford in the Atlantic Division and are red hot at 7-1-1-1 in their last ten. RW SCOTT BARNEY leads the club with eight goals while fellow right winger PAVEL ROSA paces the squad with 13 assists (T-3rd AHL), and 17 points (T-2nd AHL). Former B-Sens goaltenders MATHIEU CHOUINARD (2-1, 2.24 GAA) and ADAM HAUSER (4-1-1, 1.30 GAA, 2 SO) have appeared in 13 games combined for Manchester.
SATURDAY, NOV. 22nd @ ALBANY, 7:00 pm: For the third time in four games, the Sens and Rats hook up following a pair of spirited battles in Binghamton last weekend. Albany enters the week four points behind sixth place Norfolk in the East Division and played a league-low 13 games. C CRAIG DARBY's six goals, eight assists, 14 points, and two shorthanded goals lead the River Rats while G SCOTT CLEMMENSEN has seen the bulk of the work in net (2-6-3, 2.78 GAA).
SUNDAY, NOV. 23rd @ BRIDGEPORT, 4:05 pm: Binghamton travels to Bridgeport for the third of eight regular season meetings. The clubs have split the first two meetings, both at The Arena at Harbor Yard, in defensive fashion: 2-1 BNG, October 13th...1-0 BPT, October 19th. The Sound Tigers have risen to the top of the East Division with 22 points, going 9-0-1-1 in their last 11, including 4-0-1-1 in their last six at home. RW JEFF HAMILTON's 13 goals leads the league and his 17 points is T-2nd in the AHL. G WADE DUBIELEWICZ (5-2, 1.72 GAA) and former B.C. Iceman DIETER KOCHAN (4-2-3, 1.62, 1 SO) have split time in goal for first year Head Coach Scott Cronin.
