Taffe Recalled to Phoenix

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that center Jeff Taffe has been recalled by the Phoenix Coyotes. The forward will join the Coyotes in time for the club's next game versus the St. Louis Blues at America West Arena in Phoenix on Wednesday.

Taffe, 22, ranks third in the AHL in goals (10) and is tied for fifth in points (16) this season. The Hastings. Minnesota native leads the Falcons in both categories. Taffe shares the league lead with four game-winning goals this season – including two in overtime. The center scored with 32.4 seconds remaining in overtime on Saturday as Springfield downed the Manchester Monarchs, 4-3, in New Hampshire. Taffe was named the AHL Sher-Wood Player of the Week for the period ending October 12th after he posted four goals and an assist in two games over the Falcons' opening weekend.

Taffe led the Falcons in scoring as a rookie last season with 49 points (23g, 26a) in 57 games. The 6'3". 193-pounder also skated 20 games with the Coyotes in 2002-03, registering four points (3g, 1a).

Taffe was a first-round selection (30th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Phoenix along with forwards Michael Handzus, Ladislav Nagy, and a first-round draft choice in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft for left wing Keith Tkachuk on March 13, 2001.

The Falcons will host a pair of home games at the Springfield Civic Center this weekend. The team will face the Albany River Rats on Friday and meet the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday.
