Pawtucket, RI (August 7, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs shut out the Pawtucket Red Sox for the second straight game, winning 5-0 Friday night. Richard Bleier recorded his first complete-game shutout since July 2010, leading the Chiefs to a season-high fifth straight victory and eighth straight over Pawtucket.

Syracuse (48-67) used the solo home run early in the game for the second straight night. Matt Skole hit a home run in the second inning to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. The home run was Skole's fourth in 13 games with the Chiefs.

The Chiefs stretched the lead in the third. With one out, Josh Johnson and Emmanuel Burriss each walked. Trea Turner followed with a single to load the bases. Keith Couch then walked Jason Martinson to make the score 2-0. A batter later, Kevin Keyes singled in Burriss to add a third Chiefs run of the game. Skole then hit a ground ball to first. Allen Craig got the force out at second base, but the return throw to first was late, allowing Turner to score for a 4-0 Chiefs lead.

The Chiefs finished the scoring in the eighth. Caleb Ramsey walked against Heath Hembree to start the inning. Ramsey moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout and scored on a two-out single from Burriss against new PawSox pitcher Noe Ramirez to extend the lead to 5-0 on a run charged to Hembree.

Pawtucket (44-69) couldn't solve Richard Bleier all night. Bleier induced 21 ground-ball outs in nine shutout innings. Bleier was the second straight Chiefs starter to throw at least eight shutout innings, after Paolo Espino did so Thursday night. Chiefs pitchers have now thrown 19 consecutive scoreless innings, dating back to the ninth inning Wednesday night.

Syracuse goes for a sixth straight win over the PawSox in the seven-game, two-city series Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Bruce Billings is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Jess Todd for the PawSox.
