
Bats Crushed by Bulls with 10-1 Loss

DURHAM, N.C.- The Louisville Bats (57-58) and Durham Bulls (55-58) started their series Friday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park where the Bulls poured on the Bats with 10-1 win.
Righty Robert Stephenson (L, 4-1, 3.15) started his first road game for the Bats and struggled through four frames earning his first loss. He gave up eight hits, five runs, all earned, walked four, and struck out five taking his first loss. Donovan Hand replaced Stephenson in the fifth with a rough outing. He went two innings, gave up five hits, allowed five runs, all earned, walked three, struck out three, and allowed one home run.
Lefty Matt Moore (W, 1-2, 3.31) started on the mound for the Bulls and threw four hitless innings for his first victory. He went six innings, gave up two hits, one run, earned, walked one, and struck out seven.
Starting off strong in the first the Bulls scored five while making it through their line up. Second baseman Taylor Motter doubled to score right fielder Mikie Mahtook. First baseman J.P. Arencibia followed with another double to score left fielder Joey Rickard and Motter. With bases loaded, Stephenson walked in the fourth run of the inning and centerfielder Corey Brown scored off a sacrifice fly for the fifth.
In the fifth the Bats had their first hit of the game and scored their lonely run after third baseman Juan Perez grounded out to score right fielder Brennan Boesch. The Bulls followed with another run from an RBI single by left fielder Joey Rickard.
The Bulls continued to pour it on the Bats in the sixth. Designated hitter Nick Franklin doubled and Mahtook hit a three-run-homer to make the score, 10-1.
Saturday the Bulls and Bats face off for game two of the series at 6:35 pm at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Projected on the mound for the Bats is lefty John Lamb (0-1, 3.27) and for the Bulls righty Matt Andriese (3-2, 2.33) This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
