Blash Blasts Bees Past El Paso

The Salt Lake Bees rallied with four runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth for a 9-5 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas on Thursday night.

Salt Lake trailed 5-2 going into the eighth when Michael Hermosillo led off with a double. Nolan Fontana walked with Hermosillo taking third on a wild pitch. Jose Miguel Fernandez drove home Hermosillo with a single to right with Fontana moving to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Carter. One out later, Jabari Blash crushed a 3-2 pitch from Jonathan Aro for a two run home run to give the Bees a 6-5 lead. Salt Lake would add three more in the ninth on another RBI single by Fernandez and a two run double by Carter.

Adam Hofacket (1-0) picked up the win, as he threw two shutout innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Ian Krol tossed a scoreless eighth and Akeel Morris closed out the game with a scoreless ninth. Five Salt Lake pitchers combined to strikeout 15 Chihuahuas batters, one shy of the Bees' franchise record for a nine inning game. Fernandez led the Bees thirteen hit attack with three hits and two runs batted in, while Blash added two hits and two RBI. The win gives Salt Lake the series win, as they take two out of three from El Paso.
