ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (37-19-5) saw their home stand end with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays (32-23-7) on Wednesday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 7,005.

Matt Reid provided the offensive heroics for the Stingrays, who have now won five straight, by registering the hat trick, scoring an even strength goal, power play goal and a short-handed goal. It was Reid that opened the scoring with his even strength tally coming just 43 seconds into the game. The goal was the only one scored in a relatively quiet first period that saw the Everblades out shoot the Stingrays 9-4.

Early in the second period, South Carolina enjoyed a 5-on-3 power play, during which they would cash in on both ends. Cail MacLean extended the Stingray lead to 2-0 at 2:29 when his shot from the bottom of the left circle glanced off Everblade defenseman Chris Dyment's skate and into the net. Reid then staked the 'Rays to a 3-0 lead at 3:32 when his shot from the slot sizzled past Everblades goaltender Jamie Holden.

The Everblades broke through on the scoreboard midway through the second period when Jarret Lukin scooped up a loose puck in the left circle and chipped it over the shoulder of Stingrays goalie Daren Machesney at 9:43 to trim the lead to 3-1. Adam Taylor and Vince Bellissimo picked up the assists on Lukin's 5th goal of the season.

A turning point the game came at the start of the third period when the Everblades began the frame with a two-minute, 5-on-3 power play but could not convert. With the score still 3-1 six minutes into the final period Reid completed the hat-trick by notching South Carolina's 18th short-handed goal of the year and his fourth at 6:47.

The Everblades again chipped the lead down to a pair when Dustin Johner tallied an unassisted goal at 8:30 for his 26th goal of the season with a shot from the right circle, but that was as close as the Everblades would get as Brendan Bernakevich sealed the win with an empty net goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation.

Holden suffered the loss in his first start as an Everblade, allowing four goals on 19 shots, and Machesney picked up the win by turning away 30 of 32 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night 0-for-7, while the Stingrays finished the game 2-for-6.

The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, return to the ice on Friday, March 16 when they travel to Charleston, SC to take on the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. from the North Charleston Coliseum.
