Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed forward and former UAA assistant captain Justin Bourne to an ECHL contract for the remainder of the 2006-07 season.
The 24-year-old Bourne helped Alaska-Anchorage force WCHA regular season champion Minnesota to a third and deciding game in the first round of the post-season tournament and led the Seawolves in scoring with 31 points on 10 goals and 21 assists. Four of his 10 goals proved to be game-winners for a UAA club that more than doubled its victory total from a year ago, finishing 13-21-3, including eight conference wins in the rugged WCHA.
The 6-2, 191-pound Bourne grew up in Long Island, N.Y., where his father, Bob, won four Stanley Cups during his playing career with the New York Islanders between 1980-83. After helping the Vernon Vipers win the 2003 BCHL championship in juniors (scoring 32 goals in 60 games), Justin enrolled at UAA and contributed four goals and 13 assists as a freshman in 2004. A year later, he finished second on the team in scoring with 23 points, including a team-high 12 goals, while earning a spot on the WCHA All-Academic team, an honor that would be awarded to him again as a junior in 2006. Bourne completed his career at UAA with 31 goals and 53 assists in 149 games.
Alaska, currently atop the ECHL in the race for the Brabham Cup by eight points over Bakersfield and Las Vegas, travels tomorrow and begins an 11-day road trip at Fresno Friday at 6:00 p.m. ADT. The Aces have taken four of their five games with the Falcons this season, but all of the games have been played in Anchorage. Alaska will enter Friday's game unbeaten in its last 11 games overall (9-0-2) and 44-13-4 overall on the season.
The Aces, playing three games in three nights for the third straight weekend, visit Long Beach Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ADT, followed by a trip back to Fresno on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ADT. Tickets for the final regular season games at Sullivan Arena against the Utah Grizzlies on April 4, 6, and 7 are now available at participating Fred Meyer locations, by calling 258-ACES, or by logging onto www.alaskaaces.com. 2007 Kelly Cup playoff tickets will go on sale to the general public March 26.
