Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
FORT MYERS, FL - Evan Bloodoff beat goaltender Jeff Malcolm with just 85 seconds remaining on Saturday as the Florida Everblades (29-7-4) edged the Greenville Road Warriors (25-16-3), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-1, at Germain Arena.
Trevor Parkes scored Greenville's only goal in the first period, while Malcolm (15-9-1) made 25 saves in the loss. In addition, the Road Warriors fell to 11-10-3 away from the Bon Secours Wellness Arena this season and have now dropped four straight games for the first time this season.
For the second consecutive night, Florida opened the scoring with a power-play goal early in the first period. Following a two-minute boarding minor against Bretton Cameron, Mitch Wahl fed the puck ahead to Jason Wilson behind the Road Warriors' defense, who ripped a low shot from the right circle through Malcolm's five-hole for his fifth goal this season.
The Road Warriors bounced back and evened the game at 11:52 of the first period just seconds after a delay of game penalty against Sam Noreau expired. As Noreau returned to the ice, he collected the puck at the red line and motored ahead on a breakaway. From the slot, Noreau ripped a forehand shot on target that was knocked down by goaltender Andy Iles, but was not covered up. Instead, it slid to the hash marks where Parkes pounded it home for his team-leading 15th goal this season.
Following nearly 47 minutes of scoreless hockey, including a quiet middle frame, Bloodoff notched the game-winner with his 16th goal of the season at the 18:35 mark of the third period. Bloodoff wristed an ambitious shot from the blue line that Malcolm misjudged and let sail by.
The Road Warriors finished the game 0-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill. Iles (8-5-0) made 24 saves for the victory.
- Florida outshot Greenville 27-25.
