Beast Slip in Third Period and Fall 3-2 to Oilers

TULSA, OK - Playing the second game on back to back nights, the Brampton Beast came out with ire in there eyes as evidenced by the line of Cal Wild, Stephon Thorne and Mike MacIsaac starting the game and setting the tone or what would be a physical and fast paced game. Despite putting together one o their most complete 60-minute efforts, outshooting the Tulsa Oilers by a total of 35-32, the Beast would fall or the second time at the BOK Center by a score of 4-2.

It was Thorne who would provide the first memorable moment of the night when he would drop the gloves with Oilers; forward Charles Lachance between the team benches. The 10,000+ fans in attendance at the BOK Center knew then and there that they would be in for a great hockey game.

Tulsa forward Kyle O'Kane would be the first player to light the lamp when made a skillful move crashing the net while turning the corner around a Beast defender and firing a quick snapshot past Beast net minder Grant Rollheiser at the 11:17 mark of the first.

The story of the first period though, was the play of both goaltenders; Rollheiser or Brampton and Brandon Anderson for the Oilers. Anderson, fresh off last night's victory in which he earned the second star of the game, was up to the task stopping all 12 of the Beast's first period shot opportunities. The first 20 minutes would see a dead even shot total with both teams logging 12 shots apiece.

The second period would see the frantic pace continue and after a high-sticking double minor penalty by Jake Obermeyer on Thorne, the Beast were in prime position to even things up with the man advantage. It was David Ling and Justin Donati making a beautiful passing play in front of the Oilers net and after 3 quick 4th goal of the season past Anderson at the 2:08 mark of the period. Alternate Captain Jason Pitton would pick up the second assist on the play, extending his point streak to 5 games.

Special teams would play a major factor in tonight's matchup and the 18 combined penalty minutes in the second period would ensure that. After defenseman Guy LeBoeuf was sent to the box for a slashing minor, it was Oilers' leading goal scorer, Ad Pleskach, who would receive the puck while parked in the slot and bury a wrist shot up high pas the blocked of Rollheiser for his 25th goal of the season, reclaiming the 2-1 Tulsa lead with just over10 minutes remaining in the second.

Much like the first 40 minutes, the Beast came out o the gates flying to start the third period. Within the first few moments of the game, LeBoeuf came within inches of scoring his first goal as a Brampton Beast when he ripped a shot from the left hash that beast Anderson but rang off the bottom of the crossbar. Close calls aside, the Beast were dictating the flow of the game and at the 2:43 mark of the third, it was David Ling finding Tyson Fawcett in the slot who would blast a one timer up high past the glove hand of Anderson, knotting the game up at 2-2.

An untimely holding penalty on Beast defenseman Riley Austin would once again set up Tulsa on the powerplay. A minute after the Fawcett equalizer, Jon Booras would deliver a perfectly placed back door pass over to Dave Pszenyczny, who would bury his 7th goal of the season into a wide open net and once again retake the lead for the Oilers 3-2.

Despite a strong third period, the Beast were unable to score on Anderson the rest of the game and after Booras added an empty new goal with a minute left in regulation, the 4-2 final in favour of the Tulsa Oilers was all but set in stone.

The beast will now travel to Quad City, Illinois to close out the month of January. Puck drop is for Saturday's game is slated or 8:05PM EST. After facing the Mallards the Beast will return home to the Powerade Centre to take on the Allen Americans on Toss Your Jersey Night on Thursday, February 5th. All tossed jerseys after the Beast's first goal will be donated to Moss Park Hockey League in downtown Toronto. Additionally, if the Beast win, the fans win a free ticket to the Beast game on Tuesday, February 17th.
