The Royal Road Ahead: Reading at Cincinnati Cyclones
January 31, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
- This evening, the Royals complete the month of January with the final game in a five-game road trip and the first visit of the year to U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the Royals will face the Cincinnati Cyclones for the first of what will be three regular season matchups between the two teams-all to be played in Cincinnati.
- The Royals are currently 4-0-0-0 on this road trip, which began on Saturday, January 24, at North Charleston Coliseum with a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays. Reading then defeated the
Gwinnett Gladiators (6-3) in the only visit of the year to The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia, on Sunday, January 25. On Wednesday (January 28), the Royals made their fourth and final appearance at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, notching a 7-2 win over the Evansville Icemen. Last night, the Royals pushed their season record to 5-0-0-0 against the Indy Fuel with a 3-2 win at Indiana Farmer's Coliseum on the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- This marks the fifty-sixth regular season matchup between the Royals and Cyclones in the two teams' respective histories. Reading has compiled a record of 25-25-5 against Cincinnati.
- The Royals and Cyclones have faced off four times in the post-season: (i) 2008 North Division Finals (won by Cincinnati, 4-3); (ii) 2010 American Conference Finals (won by Cincinnati, 4-3); (iii) 2011 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals (won by Reading, 3-1); and (iv) 2013 Eastern Conference Finals (won by Reading, 4-1).
- On Friday, the Royals 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel pushed the team's current win streak to a season-long six games, dating to a 4-3 shootout win in Elmira on January 17.
- Reading has won seven of the team's last eight games, ten of the last thirteen, fifteen of the last nineteen, and eighteen of the last twenty-two.
- The Royals enter tonight's game with a record of 27-13-1-1=56, fourteen games over .500, which is the team's high-water mark with respect to games over .500 and places the team in second place of the East Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference.
- Friday's win in Indianapolis stretched the Royals' current road winning streak to five (also dating to the 4-3 shootout win in Elmira on January 17). The team season-long for consecutive road victories is six (12/17/14 - 01/03/15). The Royals' 15-5-1-0 record on the road translates into a .738 win percentage.
- Head Coach Larry Courville, who is in his sixth full season with the team and won his 250th game as the Royals' head coach on Wednesday (in a 7-2 win in Evansville), was thrown out of Friday's game in Indianapolis in between the second and third periods, marking the first time he's been ejected from game as the team's head coach-it came in his 440th game with the Royals.
- Reading scored the game's first goal on Friday, marking the fourth straight game in which Reading has notched the game's first goal. The Royals have compiled a record of 19-4-0-1 when scoring first this season (and 10-3-0-0 on the road).
- Cam Reid (2g-0a) bagged his third consecutive multi-point game (5g-3a=8pts) on Friday against Indy. Reid, who leads the Royals with seventeen goals, has eleven multi-point games this season-six of which have come in the month of January, during which Reid has recorded fourteen points (6g-8a) in thirteen games.
- Reid's second goal on Friday proved to be his second consecutive game winner. He is currently second on the team with five GWGs. (David Marshall has six game winners.)
- Defenseman Zach Davies scored the game's first goal against the Fuel on Friday. That was his first 'first goal' of the year, and it served to snap a nineteen game goal scoring drought for Davies.
- Olivier Labelle (0g-1a) extended his personal point streak to three games (2g-4a=6pts) when he recorded an assist on the game winner by Reid on Friday against the Fuel. Labelle has ten points (5g-5a=10pts) in his last six games.
- Maxim Lamarche (0g-1a) extended his personal point streak to six straight (2g-6a=8pts) and his assist streak to five games when he picked up an assist on the power play goal by Reid 10:09 into the first period of Reading's win over the Fuel.
- Defenseman Jordan Heywood (0g-2a) recorded his second multi-point performance in the last three games played and extended his current point (and assist) streak (1g-5a=6pts) to three games on Friday.
- Goaltender Connor Knapp pushed his personal win streak to a season-best five straight games with the twenty-nine save win over the Fuel on Friday. Knapp has won nine of his last eleven games.
- On Friday, Reading went one for four on the power play. The Royals have scored at least one power play goal in nine of the last twelve games, going 14 for 53 in that time span (26.4%).
- Although Reading's penalty killers got touched up for a power play goal against by the Fuel on Friday, the team also had several huge (and one extremely long) kill sequences in that game. The PK has thwarted 29 of the last 31 chances the opposition has had with the man advantage (93.5% kill ratio).
