PENSACOLA, FL -The Florida Everblades (25-13-2) earned a point in the standings by coming from down 2-0, but eventually fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (13-28-2) in overtime 3-2.
The Ice Pilots tallied the only first period goal when Dan Sullivan cashed in on the power play to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead, then extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the second period when Mike Wirll deflected a power play goal past Everblades net minder David Shantz at 13:16. The Everblades eventually broke through on the scoreboard while Pensacola enjoyed their fourth power play of the game. Dustin Johner kicked the puck free down the right boards, then fed Jon Lehun at the front of the net who deflected it past Ice Pilots goaltender Michael Mole for Florida's 17th short-handed tally.
The Everblades battled back to tie the game at two at the 7:26 mark of the third period when Chris Lee raced to the front of the net and collected his own rebound lifting it over Mole to tie the game. Neither team to could find the eventual game-winner in the remaining time of regulation. As the game moved to overtime, the Ice Pilots were given their seventh power play of the night, and they cashed in. John Hecimovic poked the puck from Shantz's pads and across the line 2:28 into the extra period to give the Ice Pilots their first three-game winning streak of the season.
In net, Shantz picked up a tie for his efforts, bringing his record to 12-6-1 after stopping 33 of 36 shots, while Mole earned his second win against the Everblades this season by turning away 37 of 39 shots. The win raised his record to 7-10-1.
On the power play, the Everblades finished off the night 0-for-8, while the Ice Pilots closed out the night 3-for-7.
