Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Augusta Lynx remain one of the hottest teams in the ECHL as they won their 5th straight road game over the Dayton Bombers 2-1 at the Nutter Center on Tuesday night.

The Bombers entered the night 2-0 against teams in the South Division and were looking to make it three for three at home against the Augusta Lynx as the two teams met for only the second time ever.

Early in the first, it was clear that both teams knew what to expect and the dump and chase game was on for the first half of the first period. Near the end of the period, the Bombers picked up the offense and out shot the Lynx 9-4, but both teams were held scoreless by starting goaltenders Dan LaCosta (Dayton) and Nathan Marsters (Augusta).

Early in the second period, the Lynx took the lead on their second power play of the game. Brian Passmore made it 1-0 at the 4:41 mark sneaking one behind LaCosta and the Bombers penalty kill. The Lynx held the lead for the majority of the second, until the Bombers tied it late in the period. Dmitri Chernykh dropped a beautiful back hand pass ahead of the Lynx defense right to leading scorer Yannick Tifu. With his break away speed, Tifu was able to track down the puck and made a brilliant move around Marsters to bury the puck and tie the game at 1-1 at the 15:21 mark. That would be the only scoring for either side as the two teams headed to the third tied at 1-1.

Receiving two power plays in the third period, the Bombers had a couple of great chances to take the lead, but an aggressive Lynx penalty kill did not allow any goals and the game remained tied at 1-1 throughout most of the third. With just over five minutes remaining a defensive break down by the Bombers allowed Lynx forward Jamie Johnson to score the game winning goal at the 14:29 mark of the third, as the Bombers would fall by a final of 2-1.

The Bombers are now 20-13-4 overall on the season and remain in 3rd place in the North Division. They will play their final two games of the current home stand this weekend on Friday and Saturday.

The Bombers return to the Nutter Center Friday night, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Wheeling Nailers. Season tickets and advertising opportunities are available!
