Ice Pilots win third in a row
January 30, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - It's a three winning streak for the Pensacola Ice Pilots thanks to the stick of forward John Hecimovic. He fired the game winning goal 2:32 into overtime on the power play to lift the Ice Pilots past the Florida Everblades 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Hangar.
It's the second overtime win by the Ice Pilots on this streak and the second time using a power play goal as the answer.
The Ice Pilots have won five of their last seven games on home ice and three of their last four Tuesday night games.
The night started well for the Ice Pilots as they raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first 33 minutes of the game on power play goals from Dan Sullivan and Mike Wirll. Dwayne Hay, David Wrigley, Jesse Baraniuk and Sergei Ogorodnikov all collected helpers on the goals.
The lead held up until the Everblades crawled to within one on a shorthanded goal in the final three minutes of the second period.
The Everblades tied the game up early in the third period on an even strength goal, but the Ice Pilots kept coming forward and nearly won the game in regulation but couldn't beat goaltender David Shantz.
In overtime, an Everblades' player was sent off for interference and the Ice Pilots cashed in with their third power play goal of the game when Hecimovic scored from Ogorodnikov.
The Ice Pilots penalty killing was outstanding yielding no power play goals on nine Everblades attempts. Goaltender Michael Mole won his third start in a row and stop 37 of 39 shots.
