Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (35-17-3) picked up their fifth win in their last six games, and saw Reggie Berg become the team's all-time leading goal scorer with a 4-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (22-20-11) on Tuesday night at Germain Arena.
Berg wasted little time passing Matt Demarski as the team's all-time leading goal scorer when he tallied his 112th career goal in an Everblades uniform just 2:54 into the first period. Berg, who has 241 career points as an Everblade in 205 career Everblades games, picked up a rebound at the top of the crease an slid it past Stingrays goalie Davis Parley to give Florida the early 1-0 leads.
The goal stood as the game's only one until Trevor Johnson intercepted an outlet pass and scored South Carolina's lone goal at 5:41 of the second period. The Everblades however, responded quickly after Steve Saviano neatly banked a centering feed off Parley's skate and into the net just 22 seconds later. Florida increased its lead to 3-1 at 11:10 of the second period when Phil Aucoin notched his 15th goal of the season by tapping in a rebound off a John Ronan shot.
The Stingrays came out hard in the third period, but Everblades net-minder Phil Osaer was spectacular in net making 35 saves including 16 in the third period to keep South Carolina from getting any closer. The Everblades sealed the win when Saviano tallied an empty net goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation.
With the win, Osaer improved to 17-8-2, while Parley, who made 40 saves in the game, fell to 11-12-3.
The win for Florida snapped South Carolina's three-game winning streak in the season series, and evened the season series at three wins apiece.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-for-6, while the Stingrays closed out game going 0-for-7.
The Everblades return to action on Wednesday, March 1 when they host on the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 p.m. from Germain Arena.
