Pensacola, FL - A spirited third period comeback fell short, as the Ice Pilots dropped a 3-2 cliffhanger to the Gwinnett Gladiators in front of 2,250 bead-clad fans on Fat Tuesday.
Gwinnett jumped on the Pilots early as John Awe scored a power play goal 1:23 into the game. Jeff Campbell and Brad Schnell assisted on the goal. Awe added his second goal of the game just four minutes later to give Gwinnett a quick 2-0 lead. Scott Mifsud assisted. The Ice Pilots came out flying in the third period, cutting the lead to 3-2 on a goal by Nate Metcalf at the 6:02 mark.
