Stingrays Play Strong At Home, Grab Fifth

The South Carolina Stingrays had a strong weekend of hockey picking up five out of a possible six points in three nights to grab a hold of fifth place in the South. The Rays now have a record of 22-19-11 as they prepare for a three game road trip in Florida and Pensacola this week. The Rays are now setting their sights on four place. South Carolina trails the Charlotte Checkers by four points with four games in hand for the fourth position.

"Moving from fifth into fourth would be a big boost for us," noted Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "But we need to concentrate on playing better hockey and being a bit more consistent."

The Stingrays got some help from their affiliate in Hershey this week when the Bears sent down winger Eric Labelle. The Rays added to the roster moves by dealing Nick Harloff to Florida for winger Anders Strome.

Matt Reid leads the Stingrays with 40 points on 18 goals and 22 assists. He had a six point week for the Stingrays. Evan Schwabe continued his consistent play and now has 36 points in 41 games on 16 goals and 20 assists.

The Rays take to the road this week with a road mark of 9-11-4.

The Stingrays suffered their eleventh straight loss in games that go beyond regulation despite out shooting the Inferno in the game47-22.

Saturday, February 25

Stingrays 6 Vs Augusta 3

Four third-period goals lifted the ‘Rays past the Augusta Lynx 6-3 Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum in front of a crowd of 5,644. The win improves the Stingrays to 21-19-11 on the season and allows them to climb into fifth place in the Southern Division. The Lynx fall to sixth place with a record of 24-26-4. Matt Reid paced the Rays attack with two goals and three assists.

Stingrays 3 Vs Charlotte 2

Matt Reid broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period to help the Stingrays beat the Charlotte Checkers for the first time in nine attempts. The win helped the Rays close to four point s on the Checkers.

The Skinny: This is the first visit to Pensacola for the Rays this season. The Stingrays and the Pilots will play six games out of the next seven against one another.

March Madness Begins Next Week

Dollar Parking, Dollar Beers and Dollar Hot Dogs

The South Carolina Stingrays and the North Charleston Coliseum have gotten together to bring March Madness to Stingrays Fans. All month long, Ray's fans can enjoy unprecedented savings on parking, hot dogs and beer! The Stingrays have seven home games in the month of March beginning on Tuesday, March 7th and ending on Friday, March 31st.

March already stacks up as a great month of home dates for the Rays with the Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night on Friday, March 10th, Comcast Trevor Johnson Bobble Head Dolls and the return of the Zooperstars on Saturday, March 11th, free tickets for kids and Stanley Cup on Sunday, March 19th, and the return of the Kelly Cup on Friday, March 31st.

Every Friday and Saturday home date in March will feature $1.00 parking and $1.00 beer. On Tuesday night's, fans can park for $1.00, get two for one tickets and two for one hot dogs. On Sunday, March 19th, fans can get $1.00 parking, $1.00 hot dogs, free tickets for kids, skate with the Rays and see the Stanley Cup on the concourse.
