San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Gulls' inaugural "Pink in the Rink" Saturday proved to be extremely successful, as $36,100 was raised for the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Caltrans and Verizon Yellow Pages sponsored the night, which saw the Gulls beat the Utah Grizzlies 2-1 in overtime before 12,358 - the eighth largest crowd in Gulls history.

During the game, the Gulls wore pink Mary Kay Ash specialty jerseys. The game-worn jerseys were then auctioned immediately after the contest and $27,100 was raised, marking a Gulls record for a jersey auction. The other $9,000 was generated through Mary Kay Ash's ticketing fundraiser.

"Being a cancer survivor, I thought this night gave us the opportunity to wrap our arms around such a great foundation," Gulls Director of Corporate Sales Alan Friedman said. "The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation brought a lot to the table for this night. And being it was our first year working together, the night overall - from top to bottom and from driveway to driveway - turned out to be a huge success."

The most popular jersey of the night was Darren Clark, which sold for $2,600. Other popular jerseys included Tom Lawson ($1,900), Jonathon Shockey ($1,700), Tyler Weiman ($1,700), Martin Mandeville ($1,600), Steve Hildenbrand ($1,500) and Pierre-Luc Sleigher ($1,500).
