
Victoria's Boxma Named Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - B.J. Boxma of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Rbk
Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for February 20-26.
The 24-year-old went 2-0-1 with an overtime win, a shootout win and an
overtime loss while posting a goals against of 2.49 and a save percentage
of .924 in games against Alaska and Las Vegas, who rank first and second,
respectively, in the ECHL in points and were the first two teams to quality
for the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The 6-foot and 200-pound Boxma made 30 saves in regulation, including all
10 shots in the third period, and stopped two shots in overtime as the
Salmon Kings won 3-2 in overtime at Las Vegas, only the fifth loss in 22
games at home for the Wranglers. After making 33 saves in regulation and
stopping two of three shots in overtime of a 3-2 loss to Alaska on Feb. 24,
Boxma had 25 saves in regulation and stopped all five shots in overtime
before denying four of five shooters in the shootout of a 4-3 win against
the Aces on Feb. 25.
In his first full season with Victoria and in the ECHL, Boxma improved to
4-11-4 and lowered his goals against to 3.20 while raising his save
percentage to .900 in 21 games.
He played at the University of Alberta in 2004-05 and at Grant MacEwan
College in 2003-04. He played professionally in 2002-03 and was 0-1-0 with
goals against of 6.77 and save percentage of .853 in two games with Reading
of the ECHL and 0-1-0 with goals against of 9.79 and save percentage of
.714 in one game with Manchester of the American Hockey League. He also
played for Long Beach of the West Coast Hockey League where he was 12-13-0
with a shutout, a goals against of 3.56 and a save percentage of .879 in 26
games.
The native of Edson, Alberta played four seasons in the Western Hockey
League with Edmonton from 1997-98, with Kootenay from 1998-2002 and with
Swift Current from 2000-02. He helped Kootenay win the WHL Championship and
the Memorial Cup in 2001-02 going 16-6 with goals against of 2.22 and save
percentage of .910.

pct.), Yutaka Fukufuji, Reading (1-0-1, 1.44 GAA, .955 save pct.) and Alfie
Michaud, Utah (3-0-1, 1.050, .960 save pct.).
