Binghamton Devils News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Mackenzie Blackwood stopped all 18 shots he faced as the Binghamton Devils shut down the visiting Hershey Bears, 3-0, in front of 4,595 fans at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
Tim Kennedy put the Devils up 1-0 in the first period after a great move by Mario Lucia that was denied. Lucia moved down the right side and cut to the front of the net where he was stopped by goaltender Vitek Vanecek. The rebound went out to the top of the crease and Kennedy punched in his third of the year just 3:54 into the game for the 1-0 lead. Devils took that lead into the intermission along with a 15-3 shot advantage.
After no scoring in the second, the Devils came through on the power play in the third period to take a 2-0 lead as Bracken Kearns slid home his 13th of the year. Michael Latta moved the puck to the front of the net and Kearns tapped it in by the right leg pad of Vanecek with 2:16 to go in the game with the other assist going to Jacob MacDonald.
Hershey put Vanecek on the bench for the extra attacker in the end and Kevin Rooney put home the empty-net goal for the 3-0 lead at 18:16 of the third. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped all 18 for the shutout while Vanecek stopped 29 of 31 in the loss.
The Binghamton Devils are back home Wednesday night against the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m.! For more information, call the Devils' front office at 607-722-7367 for more information.
