Gelinas Hat Trick Fuels Laval 4-3 Comeback Win over Senators
March 10, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Laval Rocket News Release
LAVAL - The 7,925 fans in attendance at Place Bell were loud and proud Friday night as they were treated to a 4-3 Laval Rocket victory over the Belleville Senators in the first of the weekend's back-toback games.
The animosity was strong between the two teams as they were playing each other for the ninth of twelve times this season, and neither team was afraid to throw their bodies around against their divisional opponent. Each team had one power play opportunity in the first period, but both were kept off the scoreboard.
The 0-0 gridlock held until the 11:43 mark of the second period, when Gabriel Gagne put the Senators up by one with his 18th of the season. Gagne's goal opened the floodgates and two more goals were scored within the next five minutes- one for Laval and one for Belleville. Ãric Gélinas scored his first of the evening with a one-timed slap shot off a faceoff to tie the game, and the Senators reclaimed their lead with a power play goal less than a minute later.
Belleville extended their lead to two less than two minutes into the third period when Jack Rodewald shot the puck behind Zach Fucale to end a perfect tic-tac-toe passing play. However, Gélinas reduced the gap to one and then closed it completely by scoring a power play goal that was similar to his first of the night, and then the game-tying goal with under two minutes to play.
The overtime period didn't last long as the Senators were caught with too many men on the ice 1:26 into the extra frame, which paved the way for Chris Terry's 25th of the season as well as the successful Rocket comeback.
