Black Hawks Sling Past Storm, 5-1

Waterloo, Iowa. - The Tri-City Storm surrendered 40 shots and the Waterloo Black Hawks buried five, steering to a 5-1 decision Saturday at Young Arena.

The Storm's Linus Weissbach scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season in the second, pulling Tri-City within one late in the second. The teams combined for three goals in the final eight minutes of the frame and the Black Hawks led, 3-1, after two.

Kevin Charyszyn potted a pair of goals for the Hawks, including an insurance tally early in the third that placed Waterloo up three.

The 18-year-old Weissbach has 36 points this year. Linemates Charlie Kelleher (33 points) and Alex Limoges (31 points) earned assists. The Storm is one of three teams to possess three skaters with at least 30 points.

Eric Dop fought off 16 shots in the first period and made 35 saves. Robbie Beydoun was victorious with 21 saves on 22 Storm tries.

The Storm is home for seven of its next nine games, starting Friday, February 10 against Omaha at the Viaero Center.

Charysyzn scored the opening goal by deflecting a shot in at the right post for the game's first goal at 6:01 of the first.

After the early goal, Dop settled in, making a variety of blocker and arm saves on the Black Hawks near the end of the first to finish with 16 saves. With the Storm killing off a five-minute power play late in the first, Dop blocked seven shots, all with the left upper body, to keep Tri-City down by one.

A native of Lewis Center, Ohio, Dop's 16 saves is the most he's had in a period. For comparison, Dop needed 16 saves the entire game to earn victory against Team USA on January 28.

Weissbach provided the Storm's only goal with 4:58 left in the second, making it 2-1 Black Hawks. Limoges wrapped a pass to Weissbach at the right slot and the forward touched it in to the left shelf. Charlie Kelleher had the secondary assist.

Black Hawks forward Bailey Conger scored 1:31 later to regain a two-goal lead, 3-1. Dop made 13 saves in the second and the Hawks led the shots total, 32-18, after two.

Charysyn's second of the game made it 4-1 Black Hawks at 1:40 of the third. Nick Swaney added a goal at 14:38 of the frame.

The Storm was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and 0-for-2 on the power play.
