Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - It only took 0:59 of overtime for the Lancers to find the back of the net as Omaha defeated Lincoln, 2-1 at the Icebox.

Austin Alger surpassed his point total from last season with a goal in the second period. The Lancers notched their first win of the season over the Stars, and first OT victory of the year.

As Austin Alger made his way out of the penalty box in the second period Josh DeLuca lobbed a puck ahead to the Miami commit. Alger pulled in the pass for a break away from the blue line in. Alger netted his 12th of the season beating Josef Korenar high to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. About five minutes later the Stars power play capitalized on their second opportunity to draw the game even. Eero Teravainen took a slap shot from the point that deflected through traffic and managed to squeak past Tommy Nappier to even the game up at 1-1.

The third period saw teams trading opportunities back and forth but Nappier and Korenar stood tall stopping all 17 shots they saw collectively. As the final horn sounded the Lancers and Stars found themselves deadlocked in a 1-1 tie.

Omaha headed into the overtime period for the eighth time this season, looking for their first overtime win of the season.

In the extra frame it only took 0:59 for the Lancers to end the game. Pierce Crawford entered the zone on the left-wing side drawing the defenseman to him. After spinning away Crawford connected with Derek Hamelin in the high slot. The defenseman snapped a quick shot past Korenar to end the game, giving the Lancers a 2-1 victory.

With the win Omaha moves to 15-19-4-2 on the season, one point back from Tri-City in 7th place.

Tommy Nappier made 24 saves on 25 shots recording his 15th win of the season.

Omaha and Lincoln wrap up the home-and-home tomorrow night at Ralston Arena.
