Storm Completes Three-Game Week at Waterloo

Waterloo, Ia. - The Tri-City Storm (15-18-4-2, 36 pts., T-6th Western) finishes the season series against the Waterloo Black Hawks (24-12-1-2, 51 pts., 2nd Western) Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Waterloo has won two of the first three games.

Friday's game at Young Arena was the Storm's first trip to Waterloo since the 2016 Western Conference Final. The Storm split games 3 and 4 at Waterloo, setting up Tri-City's come-from-behind victory in Game 5 that advanced the Storm to the 2016 Clark Cup Final.

Saturday's game completes a run of eight games in 15 days. Tri-City is 3-4-0-0 through the first seven games.

In Friday's game, Linus Weissbach earned his first multi-goal game in a 7-4 loss. The native of Gothenburg, Sweden leads the Storm with 35 points and 10 multi-point games. Adam Goodsir and Logan Drevitch also scored.

Next Friday, February 10 at 7:05 p.m, Tri-City hosts the Omaha Lancers for Military Appreciation Night, presented by Riddle's Jewelry. Travel kings Since January 13 (21 days), the Storm has travelled 3,458 miles. It is roughly 3,600 miles from Kearney to Honolulu, Hawaii. The travel includes trips to Plymouth, Michigan (a one-way ride of more than 900 miles) and Bloomington, Illinois. The bus travel to face Team USA in Plymouth was the Storm's longest-distance trip of the season.

When the Storm returns from Waterloo early Sunday morning, it will have ventured roughly 3,888 miles in three weeks. Since the travel began to Bloomington on January 13, the Storm is 3-3-2-0. The bus rides settle for the Storm after this weekend; it has just two road trips east of Des Moines (Cedar Rapids, Madison) after this weekend.

Last season, the Storm had road trips in three straight weeks to Fargo, Youngstown and Sioux Falls. During that 15-day period, Tri-City travelled about 3,700 miles and went 4-1-1-0.

Season series recap Through the first three games of the series, the winner has scored at least four goals.

Tri-City defeated Waterloo, 5-1, on December 3 at the Viaero Center to even the season series at one. The win was a "game of firsts" for the Storm; Ronnie Attard, Logan Drevitch, Nicholas Nardella and Jack Summers all recorded their first Storm points and Eric Dop (29 saves) recorded his first USHL win.

Waterloo won the first game of the series, 4-1, on December 2.

Linus Weissbach has three goals and five points in the series to lead the Storm.

Black Hawks forward Nick Swaney has seven goals and 11 points in ten career games against Tri-City. Since the start of the 2016 Western Conference Final, Swaney has seven goals and ten points in eight games, including a hat trick in Game 4 of the Conference Final.

Improving at Young Tri-City has points in three of its last five regular season games at Young Arena (2-2-1-1), helping the Storm reverse its normal hardships in Waterloo.

Since the USHL earned Tier-I distinction prior to the 2002-03 season, the Storm is 4-20-3-2 Waterloo during the regular season. Tri-City has one regular season win in four seasons: 2004-05, 2005-06, 2014-15, 2015-16.

From 2008-14, the Storm was 0-11 at Young Arena. Since that drought ended, including the 2016 playoffs, Tri-City is 3-2-1-1.

Under Head Coach P.K. O'Handley, the Black Hawks have gone 285-117-9-26 at home since 2002-03 and have held their conference's best home mark four times. The club has qualified for the playoffs in 12 of 14 years under O'Handley.
