West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears wrapped up a three-game road series against the Williamsport Crosscutters, dropping each game by the scores of 7-4 on Monday, 3-1 on Tuesday, and 1-0 on Wednesday at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. 3B Daniel Arribas hit a solo shot in the third inning of Monday's game, making it the first home run in Black Bears history.
The final game of the series ended in dramatic fashion as the Black Bears forced extra innings in the bottom of the ninth when OF Logan Hill ripped a single to right field to tie the game 1-1. P Tyler Glasnow took to the mound for his second start with the team as part of a rehab assignment, pitching four innings. The right-hander struck-out four batters and allowed one run, before pitchers Eric Karch, Nick Hibbing, Edgar Santana, and Jonathan Minier shut down the Williamsport offense over the next ten innings. The Crosscutters delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 15th to end the game in walk-off fashion, off of Pitcher Jerry Mulderig.
In the first game of the series on Monday, Arribas, who finished two-for-three at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored, led the Black Bears. Pitchers Andy Otamendi and Eric Dorsch combined for 5.1 innings out of the bullpen allowing only two runs.
The pitching staff had a strong showing in the second game of the series on Tuesday by allowing only three runs. Starter Bret Helton pitched 3.0 innings, scattering five hits and yielding two runs. The team scored its only run when the bases were loaded with a walk drawn by Arribas in the third inning, scoring OF Ty Moore. The Black Bears drop to an overall record of 2-4 on the season while Williamsport improves to 6-0 overall.
Still looking for the first road-trip win, the Black Bears will next travel to play the Auburn Doubledays in a three-game series with the first game scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday. The Doubledays enter the series with a 5-1 record after most recently taking two-out-of-three games against the State College Spikes.
